The vision behind Hyderabad Pharma City

The vision behind Hyderabad Pharma City was to create a platform that would attract global pharmaceutical companies to set up their manufacturing units in India. The idea was to create a self-sustaining ecosystem that would provide all the necessary resources and support to pharmaceutical companies. This would not only help in creating employment opportunities but also contribute to the growth of the pharmaceutical industry in India.

The development of the Pharma City

The development of Hyderabad Pharma City was a massive undertaking that required the collaboration of various stakeholders. The project was initiated by the Government of Telangana in 2015, and several government agencies were involved in its development. The city was designed by a team of architects and urban planners who ensured that the infrastructure was world-class and in line with international standards.

The role of government in the project

The government played a crucial role in the development of Hyderabad Pharma City. The government provided the necessary land for the project and also facilitated the acquisition of land from farmers. The government also provided financial assistance to the project and ensured that all necessary approvals were obtained in a timely manner. The government also provided various incentives to pharmaceutical companies to set up their manufacturing units in the city.

Features of Hyderabad Pharma City - Highway Green and more

Hyderabad Pharma City is a state-of-the-art industrial park that boasts of several features that make it unique. One such feature is the "Highway Green," a 33-kilometer stretch of landscaped greenery that runs through the city. The Highway Green not only adds to the beauty of the city but also helps in reducing pollution. The city also has a world-class waste management system that ensures that the environment is not harmed in any way.

Advantages of Hyderabad Pharma City

Hyderabad Pharma City offers several advantages to pharmaceutical companies. The city has a robust infrastructure that includes uninterrupted power supply, high-speed internet connectivity, and an efficient transportation system. The city also has a skilled workforce that is well-versed in the pharmaceutical industry. The cost of doing business in Hyderabad Pharma City is also relatively low when compared to other cities in India.

Pollution Controlling Process

  • The Zero Liquid Discharge (ZLD) method is a highly effective method that will be used in the Pharma City to ensure that there is no liquid waste discharge to neighbouring areas or lakes and canals. This method will prevent the contamination of the environment and the water bodies in the surrounding areas.

  • The ZLD plant will be constructed on 1100 acres with a budget of rupees 3500 crores. This plant will be responsible for treating the liquid waste generated by the industries in the city. The ZLD plant will use advanced technologies to treat the liquid waste and ensure that it is safe for discharge or reuse.

  • The Telangana State Government is constructing a CETP (Common Effluent Treatment Plant) in the Pharma City. The CETP will be responsible for collecting the industrial liquid waste of the Pharma City and removing toxic and non-toxic materials from the water. The treated water can then be used for various purposes. The industries will be required to pay for the amount of liquid waste they are discharging to the CETP. This will reduce the burden of industries and ensure that they are responsible for their waste management.

  • The Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) will also be constructed in the Pharma City to remove the contaminants from household discharged water. The treated water will be safe for discharge or reuse.

  • Solid waste management plants, including hazardous waste management, will be established in the Pharma City to ensure the safe disposal of waste generated by the industries and households.

  • Green belts will be established in the Pharma City to manage odour and control pollution. These green belts will help in maintaining the environmental balance in the city and provide a healthy environment for the residents.

Connectivity of Pharma City:

The Hyderabad Pharma City (HPC) is conveniently accessible through the well-connected Srisailam and Nagarjuna Sagar highways.

Situated on the Kandukur-Yacharam Road, which joins two highways, the HPC is also connected to the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and additional village roads.

To ensure smooth traffic flow within the HPC, four roadway corridors have been proposed:

  • Spandana

  • Eastern Freeway

  • Southern Freeway

  • Northern Freeway

The total length of these corridors ranges from 7.1 Km to 13.2 Km.

Moreover, to cater to the needs of public transport, a Light Rail Transit (LRT) system is under consideration.

A rail spur line from the southern side of the HPC to Shadnagar railway station, which is 48 kilometers away, is also planned. This rail spur line will link to the Timmapur freight terminal and the projected Jadcherla dry port, providing seamless connectivity for the HPC.

Future developments around Pharma City Telangana

The development of Hyderabad Pharma City as the world's pharma hub will lead to the emergence of small and medium pharma industries, which will create employment opportunities, particularly in the rural areas. The growth of the pharma industry will also have a positive impact on other industries, such as IT, which will lead to the establishment of small and medium scale industries like IT centers.

The announcement by Amazon to establish three data centers, including one in Meerkhanpet, where the Pharma City is proposed, will further boost the development of small and medium scale industries in the area. The establishment of the data center will create opportunities for the development of IT centers and other related industries.

The transportation of goods, both nationally and internationally, will play a vital role in the success of the Pharma City. To facilitate this, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) will construct a separate cargo terminal, the Pharma Cargo Terminal, for the Hyderabad Pharma City. This will make importing and exporting easy, as the Pharma City is only 20 km away from the airport.

The announcement of the railway line from the nearest railway station, Shadnagar, to the Pharma City will further improve transportation infrastructure in the area. This will facilitate the movement of goods and services to and from the Pharma City.

The development of Hyderabad Pharma City as a world-class pharma hub will not only create employment opportunities but also lead to the development of other related industries. The establishment of the data center by Amazon, the construction of the Pharma Cargo Terminal at RGIA, and the announcement of the railway line to the Pharma City are all positive steps towards improving transportation infrastructure in the area. These initiatives will help to make Hyderabad Pharma City a hub for global industries and boost economic growth in the region.
